1993년 초에는 대구가톨릭의대 생리학교실이 창설되어 기쁨을 더해 주었다.
이제 국제생리학회라면 전혀 생소한 것이 아니었다. 8월 1일부터 6일까지 영국 글라스고우에서 열린 제32차 대회에는 김우겸 전 회장, 엄융의 국제이사 등 40여 명의 회원이 참가하여 전번 헬싱키 대회의 2배가량 되는 규모를 나타내었으며, 학술 활동은 김선희 교수(전북의대) 등이 'A novel mechanism to increase ANP secretion in response to atrial strectch and pacing frequency in perfused rabbit atria'를 발표하는 등 다수의 논문을 발표하고 토론에 참여하는 등 그 이상의 성과를 나타내었다. 1970년대 말 미국 주간지 타임스에 'Koreans are coming'이라는 표제 기사가 실렸을 적에 막상 우리 국민으로서는 의아해했지만, 이제 생리학 분야에서도 바야흐로 그러한 시대가 도래할 것을 예고하는 듯했다는 것이 당시 참석자들의 소감이었다.
그러한 분위기 속에서 제45차 총회 및 학술대회가 원주의대 생리학교실 주관으로 강원도 용평 드래곤밸리 호텔에서 열렸다. 이번에도 당연히 10월 14일과 15일의 이틀간이었다. 총회에서는 이상호 교수(부산의대)가 회장으로 취임하였고, 차기회장으로는 김기순 교수(한양의대)가 선임되었다. 그리고 강두희 교수(연세의대)가 고문으로 추대되었으며 김전(서울의대), 김중수(서울치대), 박원균(계명의대), 박재식(경북의대), 이선희(동국의대), 이영만(대구가톨릭의대), 이종은(전남의대), 장석종(충남의대) 교수 등 무려 8명이 새로 이사로 선임되었다. 그리고 실무이사들의 임기도 대개 끝났기 때문에 조경우 학술이사를 제외하고는, 새로 이석강 기획이사(영남의대), 김전 총무이사, 박양생 국제이사(고신의대), 하종식 간행이사(이화의대)가 임명되었다.
총회에서는 2년 뒤로 다가온 창립 50주년을 기념하는 행사(국제학술대회 개최와 『대한생리학회사』 발간)를 위해 준비위원회를 구성하기로 하고 그 일을 김재협 전 회장에게 맡겼다. 그 뒤 김 교수의 건강이 좋지 않아 김기순 차기회장이 준비위원장직을 맡아 준비 과정을 진행하게 되었으며, 준비위원으로는 김명석(가톨릭의대) 박양생(고신의대) 백광세(연세의대) 신홍기(한양의대) 엄대용(중앙의대) 엄융의(서울의대) 이석강(영남의대) 이종은(전남의대) 조경우(전북의대) 하종식(이화의대) 홍승길(고려의대) 황상익(서울의대) 교수 등이 선임되어 한-영 합동학술대회, 50주년 기념 학술대회, 『대한생리학회 50년사』 발간 등 기념행사의 준비와 진행을 책임지게 되었다.
학술대회는 전 해와 마찬가지로 심포지움, 구두 발표, 포스터 발표의 세 부분으로 나뉘어 진행되었다. 심포지움에서는 일본의 Ito 교수와 Tanji 교수가 발표를 하였으며, 일반 논문으로는 구두 36편과 포스터 28편 등 64편의 논문이 발표되어 강원도 가을의 공간과 시간을 가득 메웠다. 발표 논문을 학교별로 보면, 서울의대 6편(5편), 전북의대 5편(2편), 연세의대 5편, 전남의대 3편, 한림의대 2편(3편), 경북의대 2편(2편), 한양의대 2편(1편), 고신의대 동아의대 부산의대 인하의대 각 2편, 가톨릭의대 1편(3편), 충남의대 서울수의대 각 1편(2편), 동국의대 원광의대 1편(1편), 단국의대 울산의대 원주의대 충북의대 미국 마이애미대학 미국 브랜다이스대학 미국 하네만대학 영국 옥스포드대학 일본 산업대학 각 1편, 서울약대 (2편), 경상의대 고려의대 인제의대 중앙의대 서울치대 미국 UCLA의대 각 (1편) 등이었다.
